Born in Ireland, Margaret immigrated to Australia in 1988. Margaret has over 20 years experience in emergency nursing including 12 years as a Clinical Nurse Consultant in Emergency Services. Prior to working in emergency Margaret has also had experience in Mental Health, Intensive Care and Nurse Education.
In her role as Clinical Nurse Consultant at Westmead Hospital, Margaret has the opportunity to experience emergency nursing at the coalface. She has a strong commitment to clinical nursing and has extensive experience in teaching in emergency nursing in tertiary, college, area health service and facility emergency programs. Contributing to nurse education is an important aspect of Margaret’s work.
In recognition of her contribution to Emergency Nursing Education she was appointed Clinical Senior Lecturer in Emergency Nursing, in the Faculty of Nursing & Midwifery, The University of Sydney in 2006. Her consultancy work includes the provision of specialist advisory consults in areas such as the Special Commission Hospital Inquiries and Senior Emergency Clinical Advisor to NSW Nurses and Midwives Registration Board Nurse Practitioner Accreditation Panel.
Margaret’s contribution to the development and improvement of emergency care is widely recognised within this speciality area, leading to invitations to serve on state and area health advisory committees, including a Ministerial appointment to the NSW Emergency Care Taskforce.
